Educational Testing in Bangkok

Your child’s teacher has said something, or you’ve seen it yourself at the homework table. Hours of effort that never turn into results. A kid who was full of ideas a few years ago and now calls themselves the slow one. A Sunday-evening dread about school that’s becoming a family routine.

Educational testing, often called a learning assessment, is one way to find out what’s actually going on. Alongside the psychological and intelligence testing we already offer, it asks a plain set of questions: how does this child learn, where does learning get hard, and what support would actually help.

Families in Bangkok often come to this around a decision. Whether to ask an international school for learning support. Whether accommodations would help. Whether the placement is the right fit. An assessment gives you something concrete to bring to those conversations, instead of a feeling that something is off.

What an assessment is for

It looks at how your child takes in and works with information, and where effort and results don’t match. Sometimes that points to a specific difficulty, something with a name. Sometimes there isn’t one, and the mismatch is about teaching style, language, or something happening outside the classroom. Either answer is useful.

Whatever comes out of it is written up, and it belongs to you. You decide what, if anything, goes to the school.

What happens when you get in touch

You call or send a message. You can describe what you’ve noticed and ask what testing would involve for your child before anything is booked. If you’re not sure an assessment is the right step, say so: a lot of these first conversations are about whether testing is needed at all.

A first message commits you to nothing. Plenty of parents get in touch, ask their questions, and take time to think before deciding anything.

The practice is led by Dr. Eric K. Mason, an American psychotherapist licensed in the United States, who has worked with families in Bangkok for over a decade.
